Cartoons - Round 5 (The Final Four)

I want to clear up something because I've been hearing a lot of grumbling as I talk to people. Some of the Coffee Cake members who have been voting for awhile think that the Gargoyles fans are cheating. Let me tell you, they are not.
A Gargoyles fansite has been promoting this tournament through their website message boards and through Twitter. Nothing wrong with that. Subway, KFC and Taco Bell did the same thing when we did Fast Food and so did eBaum's World and Cinematical when we did Websites.
Now I did see what looked like a student at a University in San Antonio where it looked like they kept logging in at a different computer in the computer lab but I don't think that had anything to do with Gargoyles.
They are up against some stiff competition this round. Do they have the strength to pull off two more wins? We will see.

I'd talk more about this round but I am typing this from work.

Remember folks this is all in fun.

  2. LOL I'm telling you! You guys need to watch Gargoyles! You're putting it up against shows that are nothing like it :3 It's actually one of the few cartoons that has legit literary value. It's a more serious show that's extremely well written (up until the 3rd season, but we do not speak of such things).

I'm shocked it won, honestly, but it really isn't a normal cartoon. Putting it up against BTAS would have been a much harder competition, because they're much more similar (and I personally would have cried to be torn between my two loves).

But this is a fun and terribly interesting competition... And so nostalgic.

  3. Julie I think you may not be quite as familiar with the bracket system that we use here at Coffee Cake. We are not randomly putting Gargoyles up against other cartoons. Who wins other matches determines who they face next. It is like the Men's College Basketball championship that is going on right now.

I'm glad you came by and I hope you stay for some of the other upcoming tournaments.

  4. I didn't realize you had a system. It just seemed really weird in the beginning to have it up against Family Guy.

  5. So... I did my research. I downloaded and watched. I went to fansites. And here is my reply to msjulieraven.

You have lost your mind. Totally and completely. It isn't a bad cartoon, but "legit literary value"? Really? It has the same mediocre graphics as all mid 90s cartoons, it has campy dialogue, reuses scenes within the same episode, in the first episode. The graphic novel Maus has literary value, Batman the Animated Series, The Simpsons, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Southpark, and Gargoyles are just cartoons. Yes, just cartoons. Gargoyles was a new idea, and executed okay. That said, it lasted 3 whole seasons, and the third is widely regarded as a mistake, on the fansites and in your previous comment. So, putting it in a bracket contest with shows that have run for 10 or 20 years, or shows that are so popular that they are truly timeless (Flintstones, Scooby Doo, etc) was a favor and a gift to Gargoyles...

Riddle... I was one of the ones that accused Gargoyles fans of cheating, and I would like to address that. I apologize for any false accusations. If this contest got you another couple of steady participants I am in. I don't even mind them winning, although I will personally never acknowledge that show as the best in any way. If there were a bunch of people (or one, in a computer lab) cheating I would be upset, but I find posting it to a fansite to be great. It threw this bracket out of whack, but that is worth it to me for increasing the popularity of Coffee Cake. I hope we gained some new people. Again, I am sorry for stepping over the line with my assumptions.

  6. I admit, I'm one of those Gargoyles fans who came over just to vote, but I voted in all of the brackets, not just the one Gargs was in, and I voted honestly in all of those. Truthfully if I hadn't missed out on the last one time-wise, I'd probably have voted for Looney Tunes, which I do consider the best ever. L*
But yes, I bookmarked the site and will be checking back. This look like a lot of fun. :)
